Description
It has been two years since ZERO1 has filled the streets for an all night street festival, but you have to wait no longer. The ZERO1 Biennial Street Festival is back. Mark your calendars for (e)MERGE, a street festival focused specifically on showcasing work by emerging artists! Over 150 artists works will fill three city blocks of the SoFA District along South 1st Street between San Carlos and Reed Streets in downtown San Jose, and selected works will remain throughout the weekend.
It will be an exciting night packed with interactive projects, artistic talents, live music, beer tasting, food trucks, and more! (e)MERGE will feature a selection of artists from 9 different California university programs, with wildly imaginative pieces such as UC San Diego's Prof. Amy Alexander and collaborator Prof. Annina Ruest's Discotrope, an audiovisual performance and dance party held under a solar disco ball projecting video across the dance floor. San Jose State/CADRE's Prof. James Morgan and John Bruneau's fanciful Cooperative Gaming Co-op,a recreation of an old-world arcade filled with a careful selection of games both old and new. There will be interactive projections, large immersive installations, augmented reality games, programmed performances, and street interventions.
Friday night highlights include Mike Lai's thirty person street performance, Sonic Battle, enacted through the recreation of the sounds of a cinematic battle scene, and Daniel Christopher's Journey Through Light, a participatory adventure through the streets of the festival in order to discover a series of magnificent, interactive light sculptures, culminating in the unlocking of a central light installation. Come and experience all the incredible works at (e)MERGE, there is something for everyone! Free and open to the public!
