Description
Don't come to a Designer Drugs show expecting to hear the kind of smiley pop stuff they do for hire, like their bouncy, clappy remix of Mariah Carey's "I'll Be Loving U Long Time." Their debut record Hardcore/Softcore from last year is about as far from that as musically possible. "Face Melter" has actual face melting properties, with its over-the-top house crescendos and chainsaw synth lines. "Leather Gang" is a robot's nightmare, and "Dead Meat" is straight-up industrial. The two New Yorkers behind DD, Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodor Paul Nelson, may have to accept that they've been defriended by Mariah—and added by Trent. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
