It would be easy to call Phoenix's Dear and the Headlights a typical indie band. But they do stand out because of their musicianship; they’re very adept at finding the right balance of loud music mixed with soft. Kurt Cobain once said he tried to do the same thing with his music after hearing the Pixies. Dear and the Headlights use the shifts to create some interesting compositions.
