Description

The San Francisco Bay Area, a major player in global urbanism, is in
the midst of an explosion of interest in the music culture known as
HOUSE.
On December 17, three local choreographers - Jocquese Whitfield (aka:
JoQ), Lauren Benjamin (aka: Lauren b.), and Rashad Pridgen (aka: Soul
Nubian) - enlist their favorite DJs to offer wildly unique
perspectives on this rhythmic phenomenon.

Pose. SYMMETRIC. Pose. GEOMETRIC. Pose. DRAMATIC…
JoQ teams up with DJ ANDRE to mix the lyrical with the sharp + the
energetic with the fluid, creating dance theater of harmonious
abstraction with Vogue as its foundation.

New York. SAN FRANCISCO. Detroit. SAN JOSE. Chicago. OAKLAND…
LAUREN B. partners with DJ TAGNIA to call upon the dual goal of
practice + performance, re-interpreting the African aesthetic of call
+ response for the globally-modern House audience.

Who? DANCER as DJ. When? PAST as FUTURE. Why? RITES as RIGHTS…
SOUL NUBIAN collaborates with DJ DAMON BELL to investigate the rituals
of underground dance + Pan-African performance, presenting an eclectic
homage to the history + culture of Afro/Electro/House dance & music.

see. think. dance. + MoAD revive the artist salon to turn up the
lights on DANCE.
Local choreographers present solo work with LIVE accompaniment from
their favorite musicians.
Each evening wraps up with a discussion + reception to facilitate
DIRECT artist/audience exchange.
