Description
Last year, sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson formed this duo as a side project when the Dixie Chicks were about to submerge into the studio. That’s when the Chicks went on their first tour in four years, opening for The Eagles. And from all accounts, despite some cancellations of venues, the Chicks smoked them. I’m willing to believe this especially because I share, word for word, “Dude” Lebowski’s opinion of that band. The Court Yard Hounds go stadium big and bluegrass gentle, and this is a chance to see them in a relatively small venue, as they support their new album, full of tales of break-up and escape. A highlight, if slightly late for Pride Week, is “Ain’t No Son” a song condemning a mom for kicking out her gay kid. Sounds like a chance for the Hounds to piss off the right people, as per Chick Natalie Maines’ famous proclamation “We’re ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas”. Of course, Maines misspoke. What she meant to say was, “As Texans, we’re proud the president of the United States is from Connecticut.” - Richard von Busack sanjose.com
