Description
SJMA's community days take a modern approach to traditional multi-cultural customs with activities including live performances and hands-on art making activities which represent the diverse cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year. The Rising Phoenix Lion Dance Association will perform a traditional Chinese lion dance at 12:30 PM. Sukyung Choi's Korean Dance Academy will perform at various times throughout the day.In the Chinese zodiac, 2012 is the year of the dragon. The dragon is the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac and is associated with honesty, bravery, innovation, and ambition. Hands-on art-making will include a flying dragon activity, folded-paper jumping frogs and a drawing activity inspired by Brian Goggin’s millipede-like couch (Desire for the Other) will invite visitors to imagine what household objects would look like were they to came to life.
