College Essay Class for Teens!This four-day workshop guides high school seniors through the writing of a dynamic, personal college application essay. We’ll work on topic selection, write rough drafts, and work to completion. Our goal is for each student to leave boot camp with a great personal essay. We’ll consider the perennial, broad Common Application topic: Write on a topic or your choice or evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you. Using the text College Essays that Made a Difference: The Princeton Review, 3rd edition, 2008 ($13.95), we’ll examine and evaluate real-life essays that got real-life students admitted to top colleges. There will be pre-workshop reading assignments in the text, explanation of the elements of a successful narrative, required in-class
