CULTURE COLLUSION: Please join us as we celebrate a unique Intercultural and Intercontinental Musical Concert featuring piano and vocal works of the late Ayo Bankole Sr., Ayo Bankole Jr. (who will be coming from Nigeria to speak and perform), and local artist Akindele ‘Akiva’ Bankole. Reception to meet the composers and performers will follow.From the mid-1800s, when classical music was introduced to the Yoruba peoples in Nigeria West Africa, a few families have been known to cultivate the Art of European music. These families wove this music into Yoruba tribal music, evolving it into an intercultural genre with unique blends of dissonant chord patterns, indigenous tonal melodies and polyphony. The Bankoles have had several generations of renowned musicians, whose vocal, piano and organ works are studied in many universities in the world. Their works are featured in this concert.
