Ten years ago a brand new circus made its way through Northern California. Known as Circus Chimera, the show played for 11 days at the old El Cerrito Plaza. Families loved the show and came back to see it many times. Few people know that the circus was headquartered inside the Playland-Not-at-the-Beach building here in El Cerrito. This weekend we will be showing rare movies of the circus acts and discussing the history of Circus Chimera. Our Guest of Honor is Mike Gorman who was the Director of Marketing and Promotions for Chimera. Guests will receive circus souvenirs.Circus Vargas is currently touring the Bay Area with their 40th anniversary edition. The show will be at Hilltop Mall starting on July 23rd. Playland-Not-at-the-Beach will be hosting a party for the Circus Vargas performers here in our Museum of Fun. Anyone who visits Playland between now and the opening of the show will receive a discount pass to attend the 40th anniversary edition of Circus Vargas.
