Description

Maisha Productions proudly present the latest installment of their
popular world music series, Carnival Fever. Held over three nights at
Project One -- San Francisco's chic-est new nightspot -- the event
promises to be the after-party of record for San Francisco's Carnival
weekend, which brings tens of thousands of costumed revelers every
year to SF's Mission District.

As always, Carnival Fever brings music from and inspired by the
African Diaspora, with an emphasis on Latin, Caribbean and Southern
American music. It's the perfect warm-up for the upcoming summer
months, with hotness on the dancefloor that's sure to be contagious.
As event promoter Jeremiah Kpoh, aka DJ Jeremiah, says, "Carnival
Fever is one of my favorite seasonal parties that Maisha Productions
does every year. It's always a good time and a great way to keep the
energy on the dancefloor flowing after the Carnival parade. The vibe
is very festive."

The lineup for each night features some of the Bay Area's best and
most innovative global groove DJs who bring the carnival spirit to
life. Opening night, May 22nd, kicks off with DJ Vanka (Stellar Trax),
a Belgian expatriate who's somewhat of a SF club legend, as well as a
master of all things Latin; Brazilian specialists DJ Kento Braza and
DJ Fausto Sousa, spinning samba, baile funk, and brasilectro; and a
live set of authentic samba, pagode music from Groupo de Sete
(BraziLive) and a special dance performance by the Sambamora Dance
Company fearing Rebeca Avery who has just been crowned Queen of
Carnaval 2009!.

There will be no time to recover, however, as May 23rd's set promises
to be equally scorching. Not only will the night feature celebrated
"Beatsauce" alumni J-Boogie (Om Records/Dubtronic Science) and Wisdom
(aka Papi Chocolate) -- party-rockin' mainstays of the SF DJ scene for
over a decade -- but also a special DJ set by Erick Santero (who's
just released his sophomore artist album El Hijo de Obatala, an
electronic invocation to the Orishas over reggaeton, salsa, and other
South-of-the-Equator flavors). As if that wasn't enough, celebrated
Mission District percussion troupe Loco Bloco adds live drumming to
the proceedings with a special performance by Rebeca Avery (Queen of
Carnaval 2009!).

The fiesta continues May 24th, when Carnival Fever presents it's
first-ever all-female DJ night. This very special evening features
Similak Chyld (FTC/Fabric8/Farmer Brown), Dulce de Leche, and
Emancipation on the decks, spinning all varieties of Latin-tinged
beats, from house to breaks to reggaeton to cumbia to merengue to
salsa.

Whether you're arriving in a sequined costume and headdress or just
wearing your dancing shoes and a smile, you won't want to miss
Carnival Fever: three solid nights of Latin grooves, tropical vibes,
and beautiful people to make your Carnival experience as authentic and
enjoyable as possible.
