Once a seedy dive catering to Campbell's old, drunk-by-noon crowd, the Cardiff Lounge has become a snazzy little lounge where well-clad folks get their drink on and grind up on the dance floor. The massive facelift that this tiny spot underwent several years back swapped out the rickety floor, ancient high tops and scarred up bar for a stylish setting of candles, low-slung furniture and oddly cushioned rubber floors, which reduce the broken glass from inevitable party fouls. Reliable DJs spin house almost every night. Though there's no cover here, lines can develop at the door and the bar pretty early on busy nights - win some, lose some.

Few clubs in the Bay Area offer four nights of house music a week. Return of the Boom Zap with GoldenChyld, AJ Orbit, R-Cade, Eni and Dubstantial is a regular favorite, along with the Get Down house music party, which just celebrated its sixth anniversary. Cardiff draws some really impressive breakdancers to the dance floor, and the "No Requests" sign above the DJ booth should also make it clear that there's not much room for Top 40 on any given night.

The Cardiff Lounge existed as a scruffy neighborhood bar until it got a modern makeover and cemented itself as the new Campbell hotspot for chilling out and dancing to slick DJ stylings.  Even though we loved this local bar in its previous incarnation—shooting stick against the wizened regulars—Cardiff, as the new hipster spot, is indeed a welcome addition to Campbell’s growing nightclub scene.
