The Cypher's guest rappers this week are Easy Bay trio Candlespit Collective. With two MCs and one DJ, they like to kick it old school, busting some seriously funky '80s break beats, but they mix it up with little jazzy elements. And their crazy flow might be too sophisticated for the '80s, but the spirit and fun of the early days of rap is there in abundance. And oh, if you plan to take your chances on the Cypher's open mic, one piece of advice: pick some unusual topics to rap about, like peanut butter or cats or whatever.
