On Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Anne Darling Elementary School in the Little Portugal Community of downtown San Jose, Public Allies will be partnering with fellow AmeriCorps program Bridging Borders, CommUniverCity, and local community members to clean-up and beautify the Anne Darling campus as well as the surrounding area as a tribute for César Chávez Service Day.An estimate of about 100 volunteers from these groups will be cleaning up the campus by picking up litter and providing Anne Darling with a new mural. The mural will include artistic pieces designed by Public Ally Jordan Fong and will include characters that promote education, the community’s well-being, the students’ environment, and the neighborhood they live in. This public art will complete the transformation that Anne Darling has undergone in past years, and will help to enrich the lives of students.
