Description

Craig Elmont Moore, Bay Area Artist 1942-1992, know to his friends as “C.E” was active primarily in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. After serving in the army in Germany and Vietnam he moved to San Jose, California. Studied at San Jose State University and completed his MFA there in 1972. It was around this time that his work began to be recognized and exhibited widely in private galleries around the Bay Area, as well as in museums such as the Triton and De Saisset in Santa Clara, the Crocker in Sacramento and SFMOMA in San Francisco. From the beginning of his career he explored the boundaries between representational and abstract art, drawing from both his rich visual imagination and his personal experiences. His canvasses in particular are noted for their lush palette and sometimes pastoral, sometimes sardonic content, reflecting his experiences in Vietnam, his love of western landscape, and his fascination with geological formations.

This exhibition, the first to retrospectively cover the whole of his too- brief career, showcases each of these elements, and reveals an artist dedicated to a high personal, comic, and sensory worldview.

We invite you to join Craig’s family, colleagues and friends at the reception. Please RSVP to Peggy Dozier- 408-888-4086 or [email protected]
