Description
The Big Sur International Marathon is a non-profit and the proceeds from the event go to local charities and grant groups. This Annual event starts in Monterey at Del Monte in downtown and continues along the "Windows on the Bay" to Camino Aquajito at the East end of Lake El Estero and then right onto Third St and thru downtown Monterey thru the Custom House Tunner and emerging onto Foam and the Cannery Row and run the length along the Ocean to Ocean View Blvd in Pacific Grove and Lover's Point. The next six miles are along the Sunset Drive and Asilomare Blvd back to Lover's Point along the recreational trail back thru Cannery Row ending at Custom House Plaza in Historic Monterey.The Big Sur Marathon's JUST RUN program is dedicated to our youth fitness program and free and designed to assist schools an dother youth organizations by providing vital youth fitness programs, geared towards promting fitness and healthy lifestyles in grades 2-8, the program encourages physical activity and healthy eating habits as well as promiting good citizenship and family. The run is a timed, competitive event with cash awards to the top 8 open males and females and the top three Masters male & females (age 40+) and based on GUN time. the Official shirt for the 2009 marathon will be a gender spcific ASICS technical fabric shirt that will not shrink. You can register online or mail in a form, no email registration. All entries can be confirmed online within 24 hrs of registration.
Locals can deduct $3 with the Herald weekend newspaper.
Online fee included in event price TBD. No pets, wheels, pacers or jogger on the course, at least 12 yrs old in good health and physically prepared and limited to 6,000 participants. Per the marathon running industry policy, all entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected family/business emergency, have a medical emergency, etc. There are NO exceptions.You may not roll it over to another year or transfer, sell or give it to another person if you are unable to run. If you do not run or pick up your event shirt you may deduct the amount of your entry as a charitable contribution on your income tax return.

START TIME: 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009
START LOCATION: On Del Monte near Figueroa Street (across from MacDonalds) in downtown Monterey. Free parking available at the nearby Custom House parking garages.

PACKET
PICK-UP: Bibs, D-tags, event shirts and goody bags must be picked up at the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 13th or Saturday, November 14th. A Photo ID is required for packet pickup. The Expo is held at the Monterey Conference Center, located at One Portola Plaza in Monterey, adjacent to the Portola Hotel & Spa. Hours are noon to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
If you are unable to pick up your packet, you may give a letter of authorization to someone else along with a photocopy of your driver’s license or other picture ID and they may pick up for you.
There is limited race morning pick up between 5:30 and 6:45 AM to accommodate those who absolutely cannot pick up the day before. A packet pick-up tent will be located in the dirt parking lot adjacent to the start at Del Monte and Camino El Estero on the bay side. Please know your bib number in advance. You may look up your bib number at the confirmation link.
START CORRALS: Half marathon participants will be seeded in corrals according to predicted finish time and the race will start in waves. Categories include projected finish times of 1:15 to 1:45; 1:46 to 1:54; 1:55 to 2:00; and 2:01 to 2:06; 2:07 to 2:13; 2:14 to 2:22; 2:23 to 2:34; 2:35 to 2:54; 2:55 to 3:30. If you do not provide a projected finish time, we will assign you one of 3:30. 10-Mile Walkers will be assigned to the last corral.
