Description
There's a lot of Bjork in Courtney Swain, the fascinating lead singer of Bent Knee. One minute she can whisper innocently, the next she'll belt. Like Bjork, Swain sings as if she's four years old—she just puts it all out there. She's strangely mesmerizing. The six other members of this Boston band, who play an experimental brand of indie-rock with certain classical elements and other moments of all-out rocking, seem to give her all the space she wants to do her thing. The end result is a song like "Styrofoam Heart," which starts out like a lullaby, turns into a dark tale of decay, goes crazy, and then oscillates wildly.
