About Banjojazz

Banjojazz, a term coined by Jack Convery, was named for an all American creation- Jazz Music.- and for an American instrument, the banjo. Playing banjo since they were 10 years old, Jack Convery and Howard Alden have been musical friends for over 40 years. Jack founded banjojazz records, the Banjo Snowtrain, and the annual Summer Jazz Banjo Festival at St. Mary's college in to promote the banjo on the west coast.

The group Banjojazz was formed from Jacks favorite N. California musicians, Steve Hanson on Bass, Gary Neuman, piano, and Bob Scott, drums, (toured and recorded with Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, and Dan Hicks).

All of these fine Musicians were skilled in all styles from Ragtime to Blues. In there new CD, titled BANJOJAZZ, Howard & Jack pay tribute to the greats that inspired them- Eddy Peabody, Perry Bechtal, Jelly Roll Morton, Harry Reser, Luiz Bonfa ,Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and DJango Reinhart. Banjojazz is keeping the rich heritage of American music alive from ragtime to Jazz.
