Anton Schwartz's declared aim of matching groove and intellect resolves the old West Coast/East Coast jazz conflict; the music of the San Francisco based tenor saxist has west coast amiability and East Coast rigor. Raised in Hell's Kitchen, Schwartz is an academic turned musician (a former student of Artificial Intelligence at Stanford among other distinguishings); the '06 album Radiant Blue demonstrates his brilliant phrasing and composition.
