From Twinkle Time to the Amateur Wine Competition, the Santa Clara County Fair has fun activities for both kids and adults.

Along with the usual thrilling rides, the Amateur Wine Competition invites Santa Clara residents to compete for the title of best wine in the county. Kids activities include becoming farmers for a day or watching the exciting All-Alaskan pig races. Twinkle Time returns this year with the kid’s pop-rock stage to let the little ones develop their craft. Santa Clara County also provides elementary schools with free admission vouchers for students to use during any of these activities. It’s August, so the weather could be hot. There is a new cool down area where anyone can take a break.

Don’t forget about the food. Wienerschnitzel will host the Wiener Nationals, along with a hotdog eating contest that is free to enter. The winner will receive a year’s worth of chili dogs. Apart from the hotdog eating contest there is also a Wiener dog race. Owners from around the county are expected to bring their pups for a chance to win $500. Sea Lion Encounters will also be present at the fair this year performing their impressive tricks. Another thrilling performance can be found at Michael Mezmer’s show, where he hypnotizes the crowd with magic.

The county fair also features special guest Brett Young on Aug. 4. James Durbin, who was featured on American Idol, will take the stage Aug. 6. Last but not least, Los Fugitivos will perform their Mexican jams Aug. 7.
