Teen Mom: A fashion show and silent auction to benefit the students of Hilltop High School.


Hilltop High School is the only high school in SF dedicated to the education of teen parents. The United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the industrialized world. According to the California Department of Education: “California's birth rates to teens are between 4 and 12 times higher than are the rates for France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Japan.” Unfortunately, less than one-third of teens who become pregnant before they turn 18 graduate from high school. Hilltop does an amazing job educating teen parents. Their mission is to: “enable pregnant and parenting teens to progress towards completion of their secondary education, to make responsible and informed decisions, to have healthy pregnancies and healthy families, to become responsible, effective parents, and to become contributing, well adjusted, self-sufficient members of their communities.”

One of the greatest challenges that keeps teen mothers from graduating from high school is transportation. To increase the attendance rates, Hilltop needs funds to create a taxi voucher system that will provide transportation for their students. Many of the students come from all over San Francisco and have to take multiple buses and travel great distances. This is difficult enough, but even more challenging when you are traveling with a newborn baby in a stroller, a baby bag, and a backpack. Hilltop would like to put together a taxi voucher system and distribute a certain number of vouchers to each girl, which they can use in urgent situations.

Designers include Libertine, 3.1 Phillip Lim, House Of Hengst, Prairie Underground, Dace, Stewart and Brown, Del Forte,Sherry Olsen, She-Bible, Dema, Effie's Heart, Feral Childe, and Hume and Body.

The Silent Auctions will feature items from: Libertine, Dace, Stewart and Brown, Del Forte, and Effie's Heart. As well a signed books from Christie Mellor, the author of "The Three Martini Playdate" and "Were you Raised by Wolves?"

Other sponsors include BeneFit Cosmetics, Doe, Lush, Kara’s Cupcakes, Lavay Smith, Chez Spencer, the Bay School, Yosh, Swift Leslie, and Cookie and the Dude. Model trainer Charleston Pierce (Macy’s Passport shows) is training the models.
