Description
Join Savage Jazz Dance Company for our 2012 Spring Season: the kickoff celebration of 20 years of dancing excellence! Inspired by the rhythm, energy, and people of the city that we call home, and reflecting the fundamental nature of jazz - experimentation built on a foundation of artistry and skill - “Dances for Oakland” will feature three World Premieres, new works and repertory classics set to music by Art Blakey, Alva Noto, Charles Mingus, Max Roach, Philip Glass and the local premiere of The Hours. In addition to the fierce physicality of the dancers - most of whom have trained with Reginald Ray-Savage from youth - this extraordinary occasion will feature guest performances from Menlowe Ballet, led by Artistic Director, Oakland Ballet icon, Michael Lowe. Marking phase one of Savage Jazz Dance Company's milestone 20th anniversary celebration, the spring season will honor our history and celebrate the promise of the future reflected in our dancers and in our city. "Once in a great while a rare person comes on the scene for whatever reason who seems to reincarnate the lessons from his teachers and forebears. It is this quality in Reginald Ray-Savage that gives the depth of heritage and authenticity to his company" K.C. Patrick, Dance Magazine
