Joshua Churchill, Erica Gangsei, and Rhonda Holberton

Georges Méliès pioneered film with his 1902 black and white, silent movie A Trip to the Moon. The film itself is loosely based on Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon and H. G. Wells' The First Men in the Moon. This moment and film prompted many more science-fiction scenes involving trips to the moon in cartoon form, silent, black and white, and color as film technology progressed. This narrative is not lost on modern audiences as is evident with the release of Martin Scorsese’s 2011 blockbuster, Hugo.

The feature length films screening at the Rock Bar explore this Trip to the Moon narrative from the 1950s-2006. The artist videos explore visions of outer space, NASA footage reels, and possible other worlds yet to be colonized.

Suggested cocktails to pair with Front Porch popcorn: Morning Tang, Mica, Earnest Diamond, and and Dark Crystal
