Description
In the spring of 2007, Selter began performing "personal hikes" for friends and colleagues who were too busy to hike for themselves. "Where would you like to go? What kind of natural landscape would you like to see? Do you like the desert; the green rolling hills; the ocean or redwood forest?" are questions Selter would ask her hikers when planning the hike.On the morning of the hike Selter would call the "hiker" to describe the start of the hike, and to set the tone for the day. Meanwhile, even though physically at work, "hikers" reported feeling happy that day while imagining themselves outside on their hike, enjoying the experience.
During these "personal hikes" Selter would photograph continuously and then later assemble the images as a book, reflecting on each particular hiker's experience. Each person who Carol hiked for would then get to take their "hike" through the pages of the book.
