AXIOM – A Story In Dance About Energy, Relationship, Awakening, and Change
“One man’s encounter with ‘Pandora’s Seven’ . . . and it’s dramatic effect on his inner and outer life.

NewGround Dance Company’s upcoming production, AXIOM, is premiering this August at the NDNU Theatre in Belmont. Coleen Lorenz is the Artistic Director of the newly developed professional dance company and is the director of the dance programs at Notre Dame de Namur University and Notre Dame High School. With her undergraduate and graduate degrees in dance, psychology, technique, and choreography, Coleen’s “performance stories” are psychologically driven, and she infuses the archetypes into all of her productions.

“The show AXIOM relates to our personal energy and how it becomes played out in everyday life. We take a look at the path of the mystics (the seven mansions to choose our inner path and purpose, and follow it.”

Coleen is excited to offer a professional dance company that is in close relationship with service and outreach for the community. AUM or Arts-Unity-Movement is from Teresa of Avila, the seven chakras from Eastern tradition, and the dark night of the soul by John of the Cross), and offer a contemporary, fresh, artistic expression of how these concepts affect our self and our relationships,” says Coleen. “Axiom is a composite of all styles of dance with a strong script, but with no dialogue. In the show we focus on certain universal movements affecting us all – pulse, our connection to the earth itself; flow, the interaction between man and woman and the earth and all beings; power, the dynamic force in our life; heart, our ability to surrender and allow change; and higher mind, the awareness and freedom a non-profit dedicated to inner awakening through the healing, expressive and performing arts. AUM is the parent organization and workshop collaborator with the NewGround Theatre Dance Company. The AUM board consists of a collaborative group of healing and expressive arts therapists committed to individual growth and well-being. By offering workshops that embrace and build upon the theme of the dance company productions, both audience members and the community have opportunity to experience a deeper connection and understanding of the performance message given on the stage.

NewGround Dance Company’s upcoming production, AXIOM, is a perfect springboard for the 2012 series of AUM workshops. The workshop series following the theme of AXIOM will be initiated this Fall and continue throughout the year of 2012 and 2013. NewGround plans to tour AXIOM and expand its venture with AUM, creating ‘art fusion that affects inner change’.
