Hayward-native Rodney Brown, a.k.a. Wolf Collage, has two EPs so far, both of which point towards an exciting first LP sometime this summer. His latest 7-track, Forward, puts Brown's acoustic guitar and fragile warble front and center, until-sometimes-it all explodes into shouts and distorted noise. The first musical cognates that come to mind are early 2000s Brand New and Bright Eyes. Very refreshing. His other earlier EP, Suburbia Space Program, focused more on faded electronics and hazy whispers. Not sure if he's moved on entirely from that earlier stuff, but the show at Red Rock will be mostly acoustic and I'm looking forward to see how the LP turns out. (Stephen Layton)
