Description

Two Paths features faces and heads painted on wood and canvas, as well as stitched canvas and fabric pieces that form shapes. Using disparate materials, both bodies of work inform and refer to one another with the use of shapes. The faces and heads are inspired by Parker’s interest in the human face and head and its many shapes, sizes and features. His paintings are composites of photographs and fiction. Parker is also influenced by the quilt as an art form. Quilts tell stories that evoke remembrances and history. The putting together of small pieces to form a larger piece has been a mainstay of Parker’s work. He has produced several types of work that reference a quilt format, from painted figurative quilts on canvas, towooden squares with shapes painted on them nailed together to form a quilt pattern. Small stretched sewn pieces combine his fascination and passion for both sewn fabric and shape. He uses painted canvas, cut and stitched onto larger pieces of canvas to create color, form and feeling.
