It was no light decision for a San Jose rapper to name himself Troublez. He has seen his fair share of hard times and lets it all out in his songs. His easy, Biggie Smalls-style flow and laid-back West Coast beats are underscored with an inherent sadness. He pours his heart out, telling you his life story and not covering it up with any hip-hop fakery. There may be flaws in his beats and rhymes at times, but being perfect isn’t really the point; it’s the emotions behind the songs, which are hidden under a very thin veil of swagger.
