When Morrissey blew off his single Bay Area appearance back in April, who was there to take one for the team? This Charming Band, this area’s premier Smiths tribute band—aw hell, let’s just go ahead and say it: the best Smiths tribute band anywhere, period. They played a show that very night in San Francisco and had a well-placed operative in front of the Fox Theater passing out fliers to disappointed fans. Way to turn those frowns upside down! And then right-side-up again, of course, with renditions of the Smiths’ gloomy greats. Take it from a man who has lyrics from “Panic” tattooed on his leg: these guys are next to Mozliness.
