Description

Explore the ancient process of Takbon, a traditional Korean printmaking technique for transferring the textures of objects onto paper. The result is similar to a rubbing, but instead of using friction and a crayon or charcoal, an inked dauber is tapped on the surface of the paper. This gentle method of tapping reveals minute details and allows for the arrangement of different objects in a single print. Novice and experienced printmakers are invited to discover this unique approach to printmaking and experiment a variety of shape and texture combinations using natural objects, such as leaves, flat seashells, large feathers, as well as coins, buttons, keys, ceramic tiles, anything with texture and depth! Students are encouraged to bring a favorite short poem or haiku, which can be printed with an embossing label maker and illustrated. By the end of the workshop, students will take home 6-8 prints and a new found appreciation of an ancient art form.
