Storyteller Olga Loya will share Latin American tales in English & Spanish.

The Menlo Park Library is holding a month-long celebration of the oral tradition, with a Storytelling Festival featuring an array of professional tellers over the course of seven different events. On November 15, the headliner is Olga Loya, who will share a bilingual performance of tales from Latin America, celebrating the magic of los cuentos (stories) with folk tales about self-image, personal stories about discovering of one’s own culture, myths from long ago that help us to understand the present, and tales about learning about our own strength. Olga says it’s all about “learning about the Latino culture as you learn about yourself.”

Olga Loya is a San Jose-based storyteller, author, performance artist, keynote speaker, and teacher who has performed and taught workshops throughout the United States and Mexico. Loya performs a large repertoire of family and personal stories with the goal of exploring the struggles and complexity of being bicultural: a Mexican–American in the United States.
