Description

Storyteller & musician Alicia Retes will share Native stories of Shape Shifters and Mischief-Makers.

The Menlo Park Library is holding a month-long celebration of the oral tradition, with a Storytelling Festival featuring an array of professional tellers over the course of seven different events. On November 13, the headliner is Alicia Retes, who will share lively interactive stories of Shape Shifters and Mischief-Makers. It could be Ole Man Coyote, Ravenous Raven, Kulupi the Hummingbird, or perhaps Resourceful Rabbit will emerge. Or maybe the Three Sustaining Sisters will appear, bringing their kindness and wisdom of environmental cooperation?

Alicia Mary Retes brings Native stories to life through voice, movement, music and song. Alicia–part Mayo, Yaqui and Cherokee–is a multifaceted interpretive artisan, naturalist and storytelling musician. As the Indigenous Interpreter at the Museum of the American Indian, Novato, she shares her knowledge about the Coast Miwok people and sings original trilingual songs – English, Spanish and Coast Miwok.
