Amy Seiwert brings her bold and experimental style to our unforgettable Spring Dance Series in a world premiere of her newest creation. Seiwert is a rising star in the international dance community whose creations are not to be missed. She was named one of “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine and one of the “Hot 20 under 40” by 7x7 Magazine.Val Caniparoli will also create a World Premiere for the XXcentric Spring Program, with title and music to be announced. Caniparoli’s versatility has made him one of the most sought-after American choreographers in the United States and abroad. His ballet Swipereceived its West Coast Premiere with Smuin Ballet in 2012. He has contributed to the repertories of more than forty-five dance companies. Caniparoli is most closely associated with San Francisco Ballet, his artistic home for over thirty years.
From the daring frontier of ballet we take a lively leap onto the stage with Michael Smuin’s “Dancin’ with Gershwin,” a gleeful romp through some of Broadway’s most beloved numbers. From a Marilyn Monroe-inspired “Do It Again” to, Peter Gabriel’s rendition of Summertime or Carmen McRae’s luscious The Man I Love) “Dancin’ with Gershwin” will offer plenty of glitz, glamour and romance for showbiz lovers of all ages.
