Description

Rite Spot bartender (as well as ex Bottom of the Hill, Amoeba Records, SF Bay Guardian employee also a former KFJC and KUSF dj) Ursula Boots aka Ursula Rodriguez house burned Dec. 29th in the 23rd and Capp Street fire after a neighbors house caught on fire then unfortunately burned a few of the houses near. A few days later Ursula was given 20 minutes to gather items from her fire and water damaged apartment but unbelievably someone broke into her car and lifted every last one of the few things she had been able to salvage. It's a shitty end to an especially shitty year for Ursula having lost everything in a house she'd lived in for 15 years in San Francisco. Finding a place and moving is tricky these days around here as rents have beyond sky-rocketed over what she was paying in her rent protected apartment. With so many long time San Francisco residents getting pushed out by the massive salaried Google, Facebook, Twitter new blood and big money accelerating rental fees beyond control (and reason), Ursula is essential to San Francisco. We need to do everything we can to help her get back on her feet as she tries to rebuild her life and home as well as show her that we care and support her in these exceedingly tough times.

Ursula has given so much to San Francisco over her countless years as a resident, in particular the music community, so please give back to her and help her through these rough times and help her get back on her feet. If you cannot attend, please see the pay pal link below and throw down a few, she could really use it!

If you cannot attend the event and are able to contribute. please do.

Beach Rock revival Oakland, California band Shannon and the Clams take you back to a time when Judy and Johnny were your favorite worst couple, with the help of some very heartbreaking background vocals and guitar riffs of which The Beatles would be proud. Influences like The Beach Boys, The Shangri- La's, The Ronnettes, and Patsy Cline shine through in songs like "When You're On", with front woman Shannon crooning like a scorned Leslie Gore, but with a rough unpolished edge inspired by the likes of The Cramps, Bad Brains, and fellow beach bum Nobunny.
THE MALLARD
Links

The Mallard are a garage psych-rock duo from San Francisco. Their songs harness the naked abandon of 60's punk, but inject the form with a deranged spirit all their own. The overall feeling is of a reckless ascent (or of a delirious plummet). Close attention to tone and dynamics allow the band to explore unusual terrain – to grant access into unexpected realms of beauty, fear, and humor. . .

Greer McGettrick (guitar/vocals) and Dylan Tidyman-Jones (drums/vocals) met playing music in Fresno, California, and later moved independently to San Francisco. McGettrick helmed the Mallard through several incarnations (including stints as a quartet and a solo act) – and self-recorded an initial eight-song cassette tape – before inviting Tidyman-Jones to play drums with her in early 2011. Late summer of '11 will see The Mallard embark on their first major west coast tour, with a full-length album to be released in the fall.

"The Mallard wows me with the ability to mix a sort of top-down beach attitude with the gravel-and-glass of a good garage act. " --Sound on the Sound

"[E]very bit as gritty as the four-track cassette tapes she records her music on." --DLM
