The Whooligan BIO:
Born in Los Angeles, and bred in the San Francisco Bay Area, DJ/Producer Julio Galvez aka The Whooligan, is an established taste maker known for his love and dedication to music and his surrounding communities. Genres are not barriers for him, any language, culture or philosophy that resonates with the young visionary is fair game for inclusion. This type of diversity and variety has made The Whooligan a trusted source of insight and ground breaking music for numerous events, venues, fashion brands, music outlets, and local businesses.

The love for music began in his early childhood, but when he got a chance to work at the famed Amoeba Records as he entered college, The Whooligan constantly began meeting new people and hearing new sounds. This naturally expanded and deepened his skills as a DJ and soon big homies like J-Boogie of J-Boogie Dubtronic Science were encouraging him to keep rocking. Throwing his first party before he was legal, The Whooligan started rapidly gaining the respect of his local peers and was eventually getting booked to play alongside people he admired. Soon, news of this precocious talent spread far out and by his early twenties, The Whooligan was being tapped by MTV to go on the road for extensive periods of time, opening up for then-breaking artists like Rick Ross, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Sister and Kings of Leon. That experience forced him to become an adaptable selector, able to gauge an audience quickly and spin virtually all styles of music.

In 2009 his creativity and audacity as a DJ landed him one of the top 10 DJ sets at the Winter Music Conference in Miami along with heavy hitters like Rich Medina and Lil Jon. He has performed at WMC, Outside Lands, SXSW, The Fillmore Jazz Festival and supported acts like Jazzanova, Bugz In The Attic, Colette, Jazzy Jeff, Oddisee, J. Rocc, Vikter Duplaix and tons more. Established brands like MTV Network, Microsoft, Oracle, Sony, Island Def Jam and Myspace have sought out his services. The Whooligan is also a founding member of the critically acclaimed electronic soul group 40Love, who released their Dreams Don`t Sleep project in 2012 and garnered attention from NBC, URB, Mass Appeal & Okayplayer. 40Love has since taken a break to focus on individual projects, respectively. The Whooligan was also the General Manager and Entertainment Director for Eve Lounge in San Francisco from 2009-2013, curating prolific events and booking some of the best DJs from the Bay Area,Tokyo, Brussels, London, New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and beyond.

Today, The Whooligan is a vital part of the Bay Areas music culture. His undeniable passion for his craft and his relentless work ethic have gained him fans worldwide. The workstation looks different everyday. One day he may be locked in his studio meticulously crafting musical Monet’s and genre-defying mixes and the next, spinning classic (and future classic) cuts alongside some of the worlds hottest Deejays. He has appeared on the Om Records release of Mark Farina’s Mushroom Jazz 7 and the acclaimed Om:Cast 31 “Keys To The Garage” MIX and has recorded with artists including Zion-I, Mark Farina, Exile, Black Spade, Mark Farina, Exile, Colossus, Jesse Boykins III, The Park, The Fresh and Onlys & The Memorials. Currently, The Whooligan holds some of the most exciting residencies in San Francisco, with venues the Redwoom Room at the Clift Hotel, Harlot, John Colins, Madrone Lounge, Double Dutch, Press Club, Farmerbrown and Blowfish Sushi. Blink, and you may miss an incredible experience as The Whooligan is constantly on the move, performing or consulting at numerous events nationwide. Original DJ and dance floor ready Edits and Remixes are in the works with The Whooligan and producer extraordinaire, Mikos Da Gawd, with a projected release date of Summer 2013. The Whooligan will also be releasing part 2 of the highly celebrated mix series “TALK TO ME” on Monday, June 24th, 2013; a brief, calculated collection of sexy soul and raw R&B.

Whether blending two records in a unique way or creating an original one of his own, the running thread in all his work is The Whooligan, passion for music and the people he spins it for. Truly a mix of the music, culture and people he has been exposed to, The Whooligan has his ear, and his heart, in the right place.
