Description
Katie Herzog - a Los Angeles-based visual artist, librarian and Stanford, CA native - combines art and disjunctive librarianship into a cross-disciplinary practice engaging knowledge, narrative, and information culture. All of Herzog’s paintings begin with a historical reference or anecdotal narrative upon which she layers technology and contemporary interpretations to express the humanity of her subject. In the case of her solo exhibition at PARC, a Xerox Company, Herzog’s Object Oriented Programming explores the history of information through the relationship of creativity and innovation.Object Oriented Programming features 50 works curated from the past 10 years of Herzog’s career. Her warm, playful paintings combine weaving, paint and mixed media to comment on the object, language and symbols of human communication. Some of the paintings are large, such as a 15 foot psychedelic illuminated manuscript on burlap, while other works are smaller and more intimate.
Each uniquely different work is unified by Herzog’s references to historical anecdotes in which technological meaning and message converge.
