Liccardo Asks Mayor to Stop Deal with Firefighters

The city councilmember was talking about the deal that the city reached with the firefighters union, Local 230, which includes a 10 percent salary cut and some additional cuts to benefits, and the introduction of a two-tiered retirement system. San Jose Firefighters Make Concessions

The most radical concession involves the introduction of a two-tiered retirement plan, and distinguishes between employees hired before and after the agreement is signed. Team San Jose Under Fire

The city’s problems with Team San Jose are coming to a head. Last Wednesday, City Finance Director Scott Johnson sent a notice of default to CEO Dan Fenton, denying it access to municipal funds. TSJ had overspent its budget by $750,000. San Jose City Councilmember Sam Liccardo calls the notice “a wake-up call for the council” and is calling for an expanded audit.
