Reed Rejects the Release of Police Records

In the case of a 911 call claimed as a false report, Vice Mayor Judy Chirco called the request for information “almost vindictive.” The SJPD argues that 911 calls are exempt from disclosure.

On Thursday, KIPP Heartwood Academy of East San Jose was recognized by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan as one of just 21 California schools that have shown a dramatic growth in achievements among students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award for progress made by its students since 2005, particularly in the core subjects of English and mathematics.

But John D. Murphy, author of a book and movie about the 1933 lynching in St. James Park, says that bucolic serenity is part of what triggered the notorious event.

Robert Bulterman never counted on PACE to save his business. The 46-year-old electrician and solar technician, like a lot of green-collar workers, had admittedly held high hopes that Property Assessed Clean Energy would infuse the overcrowded sustainable energy industry with a slew of much-needed jobs.
But to count on it doing so, he says, would have been “just plain stupid.” As it turns out, Bulterman’s skepticism was well founded.

Rally Planned to Protest Koran Burning

The thief’s identity remains unknown. Attorney Anthony Pagkas, who represented the most recent possessor of the statue, would not confirm that his client was the original fairy-napper, but only that they decided to do the right thing.
