Description

On September 15th, Opera San José’s 35th season opens with Mozart's classic The Abduction from the Seraglio. The opera was commissioned by Emperor Joseph II, and as the myth goes when he heard it, he complained to Mozart, "That is too fine for my ears – there are too many notes." Mozart replied, "There are just as many notes as there should be."

Mozart’s classic opera tells the story of a Konstanze and her maid Blonde, who find themselves in the Harem of Pasha Salim! Thrust into action, Belmonte, the gallant nobleman, assisted by his servant Pedrillo, attempt to rescue the women from the confines of their Turkish harem and sinister overseer, Osmin, who is determined to keep Konstanze for his master and have Blondechen for himself.

Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio runs from September 15 - 30, 2018 at the historic California Theatre in downtown San Jose.
