DescriptionBeing together for 18 years really says something about a band: either they're well-loved or they're really stubborn. Local ska outfit Monkey are a little bit of both. They've played big festivals and empty bars. They've watched ska's popularity rise and fall on more than one occasion-and through it all, never stopped skanking.
They take their cues mostly from the traditional '60s Jamaican ska style, with soulful midtempo grooves and steady upbeats, as opposed to what most later ska bands were doing, which was mix a lot of hyper punk rock and New Wave into their sound, although through the years Monkey have added a little Latin and rock elements.
