Description

The de Saisset Museum holds a collection of more than 100 ecclesiastical garments and liturgical accessories from the early days of Mission Santa Clara through the 1920s. This exhibition presents groups of 17th and 18th century vestments that demonstrate a range of vestment styles and purposes as well as fabric and production origins. On display are copes, dalmatics, chasubles, and other vestments made of opulent, though well-worn, materials. An examination of the composition and use of these textiles gives us a glimpse of the history and role of Franciscan Missions in California.
