Description
There are two interrelated idiomatic expressions that apply to Mat O'Brien's furiously made artistic creations. "The devil is in the detail" means there’s something hidden or mysterious in the details of a particular thing. And "God is in the detail" implies that the particular thing you’re creating should be done thoroughly, with great attention and care and purpose. Both ideas are totally present in O'Brien's collages of words and images: the drawings are sculptural, or, they’re not just one thing. Look closely and you’ll find glimpses of heaven and hell in every beautifully crooked line. The show runs through Oct. 31. (JE)
