Description
LA Weekly held a “best live band” contest for local groups earlier this year. Their judges unanimously gave the award to psych-rockers Mars and the Massacre. Their recorded music is nuanced neo-psychedelic rock in the vein of Flaming Lips (albeit a little heavier.) Live, however, these guys are unhinged and theatrical. Their set can include props, fake blood, 25-minute freak-out jams, lots of instrument swapping and obscure covers. They play a mixture of guitars, drums and a sampler/looping station, which adds depth to the records, but insanity to the concert. (Aaron Carnes)
