Description

San Jose State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communications hosts a community event with Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and filmmaker.

Vargas will debut his documentary, Documented, and receive the 2014 William Randolph Hearst Foundation Award.

Documented tells his story as well as many undocumented persons, honoring the 11 million undocumented people in America.

Vargas, a former reporter for the Washington Post, founded Define American, a campaign that seeks to change the conversation on immigration reform here in America.

Following the public screening, School Director Professor Bob Rucker will present Vargas with the Hearst Award along with Journalism Professor and Bay Area TV News legend Lloyd La Cuesta, following with an audience discussion about the documentary.

Bay Area community groups involved with immigration issues have been invited to join the campus community and share their personal experiences.
