The Story: One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter Georges Seurat won a Pulitzer Prize for its deeply insightful and highly personal examination of life through art and the artist.

In the days leading up to the completion of his most famous painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatté", Georges Seurat is struggling to make meaningful art and maintaining a relationship with his lover Dot. Amid the scorn of the artistic community, Seurat's artistic ability thrives while his love diminishes. A century later, Seurat's descendant—named George and also an artist—finds himself burnt out and in search of what artistic path to follow, but he finds the answer to his future in the past.

An ensemble of strong singing actors performs this challenging and heartbreaking work about our need to connect to the past, present and future. The ground-breaking work by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, the authors of "Into the Woods" and "Passion", contain some of their most beautiful and stirring work.

Parking Lots 1 and 8 provide the best access to Appreciation Hall. Alternately, and to avoid the stairs, park in Lot 5 and take the five-minute, level walk to the theatre. A parking permit is required at all times. Purchase permit for $3 at dispensers in any student lot. Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters. If you are cast in the show, you will receive a complimentary permit for the duration of the project.
