Description

Flash: How Silicon Valley Enabled the Mobile Computing Revolution

The Saratoga Historical Foundation will present a lecture discussing the origins of the mobile computing revolution in terms that anyone in attendance will understand and enjoy. The lecture takes place May 25 at 7:30 PM at the Saratoga Foothill Club in Saratoga. Computer Storage Consultant Brian Berg will give the talk that includes an interview with SanDisk Founder Dr. Eli Harari.

According to Berg, the story starts at Bell Labs in New Jersey in the 1940s, transitions to the birth of Silicon Valley in 1956, and shows how Sputnik and the creation of the first Silicon Valley start-up led to an amazing series of inventions. Attendees will learn about the ubiquitous importance of Moore's Law in an environment of start-up companies, and about how Dr. Harari's tenacity and inventions played a decisive role in enabling today's handheld computing devices to access the world's data. "Moore's law", created by Intel Founder Gordon Moore, is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every two years.

The lecture is free to Saratoga Historical Foundation members and nonmembers can attend for $5.00. The Saratoga Foothill Club is located at 20399 Park Place in Saratoga. For more information go up to http://www.saratogahistory.com or call 408-867-4311.
