The Bay Area has a long history of innovative DJs, among them DJ Shadow, Mix Master Mike, and of course DJ QBert, known not only for mind-blowing scratching techniques, but also for his constant boundary pushing. As one of the founders of Invisibl Skratch Piklz, he was one of the first to approach a DJ crew as a band, with each member layering different parts-bass, drums, solos-over each other. QBert's at work on possibly his most ambitious solo record yet: a concept album, with the first half, Extraterrestria, featuring instrumental jams from "other planets and dimensions" and the second, Galaxxxian, featuring "imported sounds from Earth," with verses by emcees such as Kool Keith, Del the Funky Homosapien and Soul Khan.
