Description

ConFunkShun has carried the torch of funk music for over four decades, and continues to be one of the most recognized bands in the genre today. Their chart-topping discography has influenced scores of artists and lives on through the new generation.

Formed in Vallejo in 1969 as Project Soul, the band soon expanded to a seven-piece and moved to Memphis to backup The Soul Children. In 1976, they signed to Mercury Records as ConFunkShun, and released a star-studded collection of eleven albums in the next ten years. With iconic hits like "Got to Be Enough" and legendary slow-jams like "Love's Train," the band assured their place in funk history, with four albums going gold, and one platinum. Their singles continue to receive steady radio airtime today.

After a hiatus beginning in 1987, ConFunkShun resumed performing in the 1990s, releasing a series of live albums and studio remasters. Sampled by countless R&B and hip-hop artists, traces of their hits can be heard on a wide variety of albums. Their 2014 record More Than Love smoothly adapts to a modern studio sound while retaining the funky drive of their early efforts. From the Tokyo Cotton Club to Atlanta's Omni Theatre, ConFunkShun is still making audiences dance around the globe.
