Description
Many of us living in Santa Cruz County pass by lagoons on a regular basis, but how often do we stop to appreciate how valuable they are? How often to we take the time to reflect on how beautiful they are, how their history is intertwined with our own, or how they support such a wide range of flora and fauna? The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, in collaboration with the Central Coast Wetlands Group, presents Coastal Lagoons: a Closer Look through Art, History and Science, a virtual visit to seven local lagoons. In this exhibit, visitors will learn how land-use decisions have changed the outlines of each site, how scientists measure the current health of each lagoon, and how artists continue to be inspired by the ever-changing nature of lagoons. The exhibit will run from Saturday, October 15 through February of next year.Accompanying the exhibit will be a range of programs at the Museum, including and bike and walking tours of local lagoons, and a report from the Central Coast Wetlands Group on lagoon health.
The Central Coast Wetlands Group, based at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, coordinates the advancement of wetland science and management on the Central Coast by fostering communication between researchers, resource managers and policy makers.
The Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History is managed by the non-profit Santa Cruz Museum Association, which has supported educational programs at the Museum since 1977.
