Description

San Jose State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communications is awarding CNN's International Correspondent Sara Sidner the 2015 Hearst Foundation Award for excellence in professional journalism.

The Hearst Foundation Award is given annually from JMC to an outstanding journalist whose work stands out for its quality, depth and public interest. Sidner has done enterprising, and sometimes courageous reporting in a variety of settings, from international war zones in Libya, Iraq and New Delhi to the conflicts over race relations that triggered the Ferguson Missouri riots. The presentation of the Hearst Foundation Award will be at 4:30 p.m. on October 13, at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in room 225.

The program will consist of a presentation by Sidner, followed by question and answers from the audience and will conclude with the presentation of the award by Bob Rucker, JMC School Director. Sidner will be at JMC School throughout the day, as she talks to classes and shares her stories with students.

"Given the barrage of media messages worldwide, its important for our students to have a role model who stands for excellence in journalism that you can count on," said Rucker, JMC School Director. Bay Area news leaders, media professors, students and the general public will be in attendance.

Light food and refreshments will be served.
