City Lights Bookstore Turns 60!

City Lights Bookstore is turning 60, and you're invited to celebrate with us! We'll have flash readings, music in Jack Kerouac Alley, special in-store discounts, giveaways for that day-only, and the appearance of a few surprise guests!

In the cellar, visitors will find special guests performing short, flash readings (and perhaps some music!) in the style of their choosing. The schedule's a secret, so be prepared for anything! Between performances, lilt between City Lights and drinks at Vesuvio (and back again!) with jazz in Kerouac Alley. Back in the bookstore, make your mark! In lieu of a guestbook, we'll have a typewriter threaded with a hefty scroll for our visitors' spontaneous musings à la Kerouac. And where we post our community events, we'll welcome everyone to share their own stories of City Lights, real or imagined or somewhere in between. Throughout the store, we'll have rare and archival footage on display, and when you make your way to the top floor, be sure to go beyond the poetry room… We'll have a very, not-to-be-missed, special event!
